Formula Drift Round 3 – Falken Takes 1st and 2nd at New Jersey
Posted: 14th July 2010 by admin in DriftFALKEN TIRES TAKES IT

Another awesome weekend in GT racing as the Nissan GT-R team Sumo Power GT improve on their previous best results for a 2nd place finish for round for of the FIA GT World Championship’s 2010 season!
Sumo Power kicked off the round with a strong qualifying race on Saturday. Scoring a fifth place on the grid for qualifying, the #22 GT-R put in an amazing performance with each driver (Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes) setting the pace with the best laptimes. They went on to finish the qualifying race in third spot behind a Maserati MC12 and Lamborghini R-SV.
The #23 GT-R of Krumm and Dumbreck also started off with a solid grid spot (3rd place) for qualifying but elected to save their best rubber for the main race. The choice of old tires did little for their hopes of an amazing qualifying race and they ended up finishing qualifying in 9th.
The Swiss Racing Team GT-Rs were further back with a 12th and 21st place qualifying position. The #3 car in 21st due to a puncture during a hot lap while qualifying.
During Sunday’s final, the decision to save the new rubber for the #23 GT-R paid off in spades as they used the grip advantage to score an amazing 2nd place on the podium.
The #22 GT-R also raced extremely well reaching 2nd place at one point in the race. Unfortunately they were judged to go over the white line at one point of the track and suffer a drive through penalty placing them back to 18th in the pack. They fought well though and claimed a final 8th place points scoring finish as well as some epic racing moments.
Swiss Racing Team’s #3 GT-R managed to improve on their qualifying place even on their old rubber and finished overall in 15th spot. This race truly shows the importance of tire strategy especially in the hot conditions.
The SRT #4 GT-R suffered a gearbox issue which forced them to retire when 4th gear went on holidays.

UK based tuner GTC Racing has been making a great name for itself with GT-R tuning and original parts since launch and the latest iteration of the combined knowledge and hardware is the GTC750R GT-R. The team have put it through it’s paces on the dyno and on the track. The result is a GT-R that is hypercar quick with looks to match.
The car features a lengthy list of modifications with some of the highlights being:
- GTC 90mm Titan Exhaust with GTC Titan 90mm Y-Pipe
- GTC 80 mm Zircotech coated de-cat front pipes
- Hybid IHI/Garret GT30 ball bearing turbos
- Garret Wastegate Actuators
- 1000cc ID Injectors
- GTC 80mm MAF pipes (prototypes) – w/ HPX MAF sensors
- Twin 255 lt fuel pumps w/ upgraded fuel lines
- GTC Marston Core Intercooler w/80mm hard pipe kit (no BOVs)
- GTC Radiator
- GTC 14 plate clutch system & steel plates & shims
- Prototype gearbox cooler (water type)
- Alloy extended gearbox oil pan
- Alloy engine sump
- COBB Tuning AccessPORT w/GTC custom tune
With those mods, and a good driver, it reeled off a 10.3 @ 139 mph during it’s shake down testing. The guys report that they have cracked the GT-R’s infamous launch control systems and can now raise the ECM’s launch rev limit to wherever is most optimal. Given that, we expect to see an interesting few runs coming up soon both from GTC and from abroad.
For more information on the latest range of GTC products for the GT-R, head over to the GTC-R website, give them a call or check out their discussion thread over on the NAGTROC forums.

Well, its been a few weeks now and she is finally assembled… And disassembled. After nearing full completion, a friend of mine told me about a paint shop that he is going to be taking his car to. So now my car is fully disassembled and ready to be prepped and sprayed. The next corolla heading over there will be my track car. Stay tuned.

Being a bachelor and all I went out on a Tuesday night to grab some food at In n Out and out of the corner of my eye I noticed the race helmet was inside the car still. I had forgotten to take it out when I put the car into storage for some good rest. And all local track rats know Adams is open for Time Attack Tuesdays, so I decided to screw the food and get some more track time in the newly setup 350z. I had a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This run is my second and well not to shabby for not being on a track for some time.
As you can faintly see, I got a slight build on my hands. A rather recent turn of events along with a bit of news and here we go with my babys rebuild. Although this is not a Nissan it still is somewhat relevant seeing as how the engine in the car on the left will be replaced with a Nissan blood pumper. STAY TUNED!!!!
